ERP - Cloud Computing

There is a lot of buzz going on the ERP software space, and the technology space for that matter about cloud computing and what exactly cloud computing means. In a recent survey at a large enterprise conference, the question of what cloud computing is was presented to a group of 25 attendees, and for the most part, every answer was different.

In a high level description, cloud computing is a movement that has been occurring in the technology applications and software wave that disrupts the on-premise IT model of buying servers and installing them in house, installing the software on them in house, and buying more user licenses and PC’s for current and new employees down the road as the companies grow. SaaS, or software as a service is another description of cloud computing that is broadly used by companies today. SaaS, or web based applications such as ERP CRM are opening up technologies to the masses by smashing the costly constraints required by on-premise applications. Rather than purchasing new software licenses and hardware to accommodate new employees and growth, companies can just add employees to their account with their application service provider who is the server and the data center making expanding and shrinking user demand incredibly fast, flexible and affordable.
